Another Pie for Fuller

 NEWS

The “Almost Pi Day” challenge did not disappoint.

In a remarkable display of memory and focus, Year 11 student Aria Smith recited an incredible 202 decimal places of pi, securing victory in this year’s competition. Pushing her all the way was her brother, Indy Smith, who delivered an impressive performance of his own, reaching 178 decimal places.

The sibling showdown added an extra layer of excitement, but it was Aria who once again claimed the title — continuing a family-friendly rivalry that had the crowd fully invested.

For her efforts, Aria walked away with a $50 cash prize, 250 house points for Rimu, canteen pie vouchers, and the ultimate reward — the chance to throw a pie in Mr Fuller’s face.

This isn’t Aria’s first triumph. Two years ago, she also won the challenge and earned the same messy privilege, making Mr Fuller something of a recurring target in Mākoura’s growing Pi Day tradition.

The event once again proved that at Mākoura, learning can be equal parts impressive and unforgettable.
