Culture is alive at Mākoura College. It can be heard in our waiata, seen in our performances, felt in our celebrations, and experienced in the strong sense of belonging that exists across our kura.

We are proud to be a school where students are encouraged to stand tall in who they are and where they come from. Through Kapa Haka, Pasifika Performing Arts, language weeks, cultural celebrations, music, dance, and community events, students have opportunities to express themselves, share their identity, and connect with others.

Every student and staff member learns and performs our school haka and waiata, creating a shared sense of unity, pride, and connection. At Mākoura, culture is something that belongs to everyone.

Our kura reflects the diverse and evolving identity of Aotearoa New Zealand. We celebrate diversity, promote understanding, and create opportunities for students to learn from oneanother in a respectful and inclusive environment grounded in tika, pono, and aroha.

Whether students are performing on stage, leading cultural events, supporting community celebrations, or simply finding confidence in their identity, they are encouraged to participate, contribute, and belong.

At Mākoura, culture is woven into the heartbeat of the kura every single day.
