Students from Mākoura College’s Aviation Academy were recently photographed at Hood Aerodrome, marking the introduction of their new academy uniform tops. The setting was a fitting one, with the aerodrome providing a real-world backdrop to a programme that continues to grow in both interest and opportunity.
The Aviation Academy offers students a chance to explore the aviation industry beyond the classroom. Alongside opportunities for real flight experience, students build their understanding of how the industry operates, from aircraft and flight principles through to the wider systems that support aviation in New Zealand. They also learn about the history of aviation and explore potential career pathways within the sector.
Students can gain NCEA credits through a range of standards that focus on both practical knowledge and industry insight, helping to connect their learning to future possibilities.
The new uniform tops help create a shared identity for the group and reflect the pride students are taking in being part of the academy. As the programme continues to develop, it remains a valuable option for students interested in hands-on learning and exploring pathways beyond school.
