Our kura is a place where identity, creativity, and celebration thrive. From haka to hip-hop, Matariki to Polyfest, spoken word to kapa haka — culture lives and breathes at the heart of Mākoura.

Every student’s background is acknowledged, valued, and given voice. Through kapa haka, Pasifika Performing Arts, language weeks, and shared community events, our ākonga proudly express who they are and where they come from.

We sing together. We haka together.    Every student and staff member knows and performs our school haka and waiata — a living symbol of unity and pride. At Mākoura, culture isn’t an add-on. It’s for everyone. It’s in the way we speak, the way we celebrate, the way we connect.

Mākoura College is richly contributing to an inclusive society in Aotearoa New Zealand.  Culture is who we are.  And here, it’s celebrated every day.
