THE HOUSE

The House provides a safe, private and confidential space for all students to access health services during school hours. All students are welcome and encouraged to visit the House. Services provided aim to meet the holistic needs of each student by offering counselling, a health clinic and space for community agencies that support the school.

POUARAHI / SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR:

Wendy Hemi is the full-time and fully trained pluralistic counsellor. Wendy provides the opportunity for conversation and counselling to support students' independent personal growth and development. Wendy recognizes that each student is unique and will respond accordingly, exploring the best way forward using a variety of counselling approaches. Wendy will work collaboratively with community agencies, as appropriate, to ensure students get the support they need.

HEALTH SERVICE:

  • A school-based health service is provided by Tu Ora Compass Health. This includes a nurse four days per week and a doctor one morning.  

  • The school nurse is Karen Jamison who works Monday to Thursday. Dr Susan Helman visits the school on a Wednesday morning.

  • The service provides free, confidential health care to all students.

COMMUNITY AGENCIES:

Wairarapa has multiple community agencies that support individual students and their whanau. The House provides a space for these agencies to come to school to connect with students.
