Te Kura Teina - Junior School for Years 9 & 10
Year 9 and 10 students complete an integrated Homeroom programme that covers the curriculum areas of Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Social Science, Health and Physical Education.

This allows us to more effectively address the intent of the New Zealand Curriculum, which requires schools to provide a more meaningful and relevant curriculum with an emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. Relationships between students and their teachers develop in the inclusive environment of our homerooms.

In addition to the above integrated curriculum, Year 9 students are rotated through a wide range of specialist taught curriculum subjects (eg; Art, Design Technology, Language etc), two of which they choose to specialise in at Year 10. It is expected that students will pursue these subjects at NCEA in subsequent years.

Students that show aptitude may be invited to take one or two NCEA Level 1 subjects while in Year 10, and we have students participating in gifted and talented, and leadership programs throughout the year.

In Te Kura Teina teachers work hard to develop positive learning relationships with all students.  We keep our class sizes at between 18 and 25 to ensure our students have every opportunity to receive quality teaching and equitable teacher time. Our classrooms are well resourced and vibrant learning spaces.
